HR Employee Relation Specialist

Summary:

  • The Employee Relations Specialist works to create and maintain a positive and fair workplace for all agency employees and candidates. This position is responsible for the administration and operations of the human resource function, including employee relations, legal compliance, policy/procedure development. The Employee Relations Specialist may also contribute to projects involving employee and program metrics, audit requirements, and contract review. The Employee Relations Specialist will be a critical advisor to managers throughout the organization regarding talent development and policy compliance. In addition, the position will support the Human Resources staff regarding training, compliance, and organizational alignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide training, coaching, staff and leadership development and compliance advice to agency leaders.
  • Participate in the development of organizational policies and strategic plans.
  • Resolve employee complaints, grievances, and investigations to resolution.
  • Manage the disciplinary action process, including warnings and terminations in conjunction with management staff.
  • Provide support and oversight to assigned HR team members around issues of payroll, benefits, onboarding, training and development, recruitment, regulatory and compliance.
  • Assist leaders in the development and implementation of evaluation metrics for their teams.
  • Oversee and manage employee leave programs, including CTPL and Worker's Compensation.
  • Support HR Operations Specialist with FMLA, if needed.
  • Foster an environment that engages all employees, respects diversity and is compliant with all applicable legal and program requirements.
  • Provide review and input on agency contracts and grant applications, as needed.
  • Participate in the implementation of training programs targeted for all employees on relevant professional development and industry topics and best practices.
  • Provide support to HR Assistant with all stages of the audit processes.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge Of:

  • Human Resource management functions.
  • Understanding federal and state labor regulations and laws.
  • Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity requirements and procedures.
  • General office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Nonprofit HR

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Human Resource Management or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience working progressively in Human Resources or related field.

Other:

  • Must be: ethical, self-motivated, dependable/reliable, and detailed oriented.?
  • Must be able to interface easily with staff, other senior management, and funding sources.?
  • Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.?
  • Must be able to travel to different locations within the state as needed and often on short notice.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.?
