Cook

Summary:

  • The Food Service Cook will coordinate food services for the resident population. Preparing all meals for clients. Using all safety precautions as needed. Keeping a clean and sanitary work area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform food service duties; prepares meals and snacks; completes kitchen inspections weekly; monitors for compliance in accordance with building, fire, safety, health codes, and requirements of other regulatory bodies including but not limited to funding sources.
  • Assist Food Service Supervisor with ordering of food and donations through distributors, wholesalers and food establishments utilized by the agency in accordance with dietitian approved menus.
  • Assist Food Service Supervisor with the maintenance of food service budgets.
  • Assist Food Service Supervisor with staff scheduling and coverage.
  • Responsible for all client food service grievances for the East and Central facilities.
  • May perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of:

  • Department of Public Health Requirements
  • General office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to:

  • Interact effectively with representative of funding sources and referral agencies.
  • Analyze and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage priorities to meet deadlines and demonstrate multi-tasking skills.
  • Work and make decisions independently.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Three years of experience working within the field of institutional food preparation.
  • Preferred but not required completion of a culinary school or training program.

Other:

  • Must be: ethical, self-motivated, dependable/reliable and detailed oriented.
  • Must be able to interface easily with clients, staff, and other management.
  • Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20- pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.
  • Must possess a Valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete the introductory probationary employment period.
